Av Loved and Av Lost.......,

The commemoration of the birth of Christ the past week brought about a festive mood that you would presume that it would be marked by going to church. The church bit back fired (not safe words to use) but for some such  as those who intend to mass at the Holy Family basilica on Xmas mass was canceled due to a bomb scare. Dawn those Al Shabab just when most of the people are seeking repentance for what the are all about to do, drinking eating among other things in excess.
I found myself on Ngong Road fresh new joint at KRFUEA, quit similar to Rafikiz though it's the Rafikiz management from what am told took and renovated the place and took it up a notch. its no surprise it looks similar. To top it the had a Dj playing the new found craze of the town, Kwaito music from South Africa marked by guys like Liquid deep so some mellow class ambiance. Being much of a dancing guy they also had my remedy like Dj Cleo who just rocking the air way bad with music like Bhamba side to side and Sizohlangana_ku_Facebook which literally gat a tutorial for dancing to the songs.

After have a slightly expensive drink and a relatively good time we decide to head home, getting an over packed parking we experienced some mayhem seeing as the night had seen as having loaded up on sufficient alcohol.
In that commotion arguing waiting for guys to come to the ride, some lost others getting lost while looking for the lost ones (if you’re a driver of drunken people you can relate) my Blackberry got lost. Some detective work saw us come to a conclusion that it fell down and got picked buy a freaking guard.
I don’t think you got the seriousness, my blackberry got lost. Worst feeling that someone can have is when you wake in the morning all smiley then when you want to text, tweet or Facebook guys about the fun time you had you remember –shit my phone got jacked. Don’t get me wrong the night I was all fudged up moving up and down while doing the Sherlock Homes thing while retracing the steps to how where and when the phone got lost.
In this age there are some things that just become part of you, perfect commitment. A phone is one of them, if think about it the only times when you are not using it is when in gears during slumber and most of us use it for waking up. Minimal maintenance is needed since you are watching over it like most of the time unlike a car which has similar commitment but what I have learnt with my dismal knowledge of vehicles, cars are whiny b%&*hes because they need so much maintenance which we can assume is because of their large nature- I wonder if it translates to women, just a thought.
Its such a set back when may be during the previous night you drunk all your cash (hardly unless you are a drunkard) then when morning comes a bit of laziness, hangover (those who have them), fatigue, disappointment in yourself for losing the phone and with all that you have to wake up look for a customer care provider pay almost a 100shillings then try remembering your pin code. All that is such a bother then to top it off if you don’t have a spare phone you’re just rocking a simcard.
Finally when the simcard finally gets to be used properly in a phone, no contacts on it and expecting guys to contact you can take a long while others would be lost forever. Unnecessary hard work posting updates on the social networks then guys ignore them then later they text you that you have ignored them for a long while adds salt to the injury.

so hard bouncing off the three.....
Insisting on how a relationship with a phone is just something special, it is usually hard to move on to another type of phone. Getting acquainted to a normal keypad yet you’re used to qwerty or torch screen the menu and configuring internet setting are just a bother.
After the Blackberry I got this knock off of a blackberry Bold & curve, its called a ‘Mi’, the similarity is impeccable just less of wi-fi and some essentials like a memo pad which I used to draft the lovely posts that all have been enjoying. (i.e. Blackberry is so recognized Microsoft word 1997-2003 version doesn’t autocorrect-true story I have tried it out.
Additional features that the ‘Mi’ offers is an aerial, yes an aerial and I guess it’s for the T.V app installed plus it’s a dual sim so two in one.
To stress how a phone has gone to be such a personal essential commitment, there is an app for pregnant women, they can compare notes I guess-available on the authentic smart phone but for now the ‘Mi’ works perfect for a lesser phone. I should stop the discrimination hahaha.
After the sad nigh  also found some comedy yet again from South African products this time not the songs but a stand up comedian going by the name Trevor Noah-daywalker. he doesnt look it but he is hilarious as hell. I would recommend him for a bad day.
Cheers bloggerz.... awesome year it has been even if we have had alot to complain about.

Pezzaz Dining experience during the Merry Holidays

Pezzaz is like ummff just to clarify. The previous week due to unavoidable circumstances such as having deadlines on some take away exams and a project that saw me typing more than 30 pages I couldn’t put a post out. The computer screen was just unthinkable especially dealing with words. I apologize though but now am back.

Being a cheerful month and one that should be spent making merry during the Xmas time, posts would directly link to food. Honestly what brings people together effectively other than food and drink if you think about it? Like the adage “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”. My main motivation (not the song one and it been a while since I can relate to the lyrics-peaks of not having a wife/girlfriend to do the grown up with). Enough of the digressing, main drive to writing the post is because am losing weight and am guessing I have been doing a lot of thinking and neglecting my body. Though, its doing wonders to my physique such that I am fitting in them linen pants quite nicely(so I have been told it not like I go in front of the mirror and go like –bum pointing at the obvious area that the ladies would be appreciative). The down side I don’t have events such as the past blankets & wine (not my words but it has been referred to as blankets & whining because Muthoni-the drummer queen hogs the events with her music-not my words). The last blankets & wine held this past weekend at mamba village had Liquid Deep rocking the seen. The South African group has been rocking the air waves with music titled Alone,BBM. Really chilled out beats and lyrics just relates to our generation. Am sure it rocked.

Best news though its the holidays, those who can relax from school even if some of them are taking a break on the 23rd, its better than nothing. Those who are working through the Xmas period, sad but hustling be important.

Having experienced a bit of good living decided to share how one can have a fantabulous Xmas at a budget or making sure they end the year having had a memorable experience.

During December like I mentions earlier, eating is very essential. How better to enjoy it with some new food experiences at some joints that you may not think exist or are too pricey from the outside.

Problem with seemingly classy dinning places, the menu. Some of them have pages and pages of the Harry potter novel as a Menu. It can get intimidating especially when waiter is lingering over your shoulder making you feel insecure while he is breathing hot air as if trying to cook you up and serve you to your date. Experienced such an ordeal at Trattoria located in the CBD. Ambience of the place though specifically inside is just amazing, dimmed lights and a small crowd is just awesome. The down side though is you can’t scan the room and get a reference of what is good and advisable to order.

Tip, when you are in a restaurant and it’s relatively new, scan the room to see what other people are having and whatever you get to spot & seem good, ask and work from there. With and Italian restaurant such as Trattoria you could never go wrong with pasta and pizza.

In Westlands, a restaurant known as Forgo Gaucho is ran by Turkish entrepreneurs had some of the most memorable meat I have ever tasted. It’s the ideal place to have an office or family social meal where it caters best to large crowds. The appetizers to the main meal are all self service. I must admit I got lost and had a monster appetizer then a chef came to brief us on how varieties of meat would be coming around with some of the waiter. Service was at the table with cards marked red and green on either side, when the sizzling meat carried by the waiter came round, depending on the type of meat one was able to say yes or no using the red card meaning no and green yes. I ate so much meat when I got home I just slept to the tasteful experiences.

sample kuku from fogo gaucho
The other dinning mouth exciting jaw dropping experience is both Ethiopian and Somali cuisine. Both firey and unique, they offer a different taste from the normal. It is also reputed to having a social gathering and communal eating so family binding and experience, this would be best suited. Place like Habesha serve dishes such as injera-not Collo, Shekla (roasted meat on a ka small jiko), Shawarma among other many dishes.

Lastly the Mediterraneo located at the junction just past java. Over shadowed by java it is a restaurant that goes unnoticed and yet they have the best pizza that I have ever had. The chef can customize it to what ever specifications that one has in mind. Being a proper restaurant such that they serve appetizers, reservations and what not, it is relatively cheap and service there is just excellent. Usually has a small crowd and quit spacious with an upstairs setting.

Other places such as Dormans, I would recommend their toasted sandwiches which are different from the Uchumi power sandwich (though it's on it own level even with the hiked prices). I haven’t had an experiences at the ArtcafĂ© only a croissant but one at junction is quite spacious and seems to be full every time I pass by there though best reference, I would direct people to a friend of mine named June Gakii always updating her status while having work meetings there.

If I had job meeting in a restaurant i wouldnt be growing thin.  anyway you can go with hiring a chef such as Fiona Nakalungi...i trust her cooking.
l8r bloggerz and have a Merry Jolly Xmas.

SoReal Moments

After hailing Strathmore University after organizing their first ever pageant with such success, I got to go and have a game at their home turf. Recently having had a rainy unpredictable weather it dint do any justice to their pith. The muddy terrain was just a headache then to top it off we learn they don’t have a showering area. We were covered in mud & sweat at the time people. It wasn't a pretty sight.
Then again that was the beginning of a mouth gaped weekend. A form rugby player who happened to be watch the game was amidst of our friends and offered to give some of the guys a lift to our club house where there is the comfort of a shower cold as it usually runs. By this time I had no clue who the guy was but got on to a (large land cruiser). Smelling the rugged car up he decided we could take a shower at his place.
It all began there, introduction commenced to the fact that he has a crib in Runda, Spring Valley & State house(not the actual thing) somewhere. As if that was not enough the recently bought apartment had three master bedrooms (by now I dint actually know what that meant until we got there). A short tour, all the rooms had their own bathroom and shower.
Then the Runda house came up, he began talking about putting up a Gazebo there (had to Google to know what that is) also a bar next to the pool. At that time he was on his ipad people. Tools of communication ranged from an iphone to a blackberry.
Gazebo/BAR

Down to the business we were originally there for, the toilet was so spacious it even had magazines as if in a dentist office. Having a shit everyday in a place like that would just make a person offer more to the world I would think. Then the sinks platform was so huge. Three sinks and ample space for freshening up and made of marble or some good tiles.
By now if there were flies they would be making a cocoon in my mouth.
In my mind I was thinking if I had a significant other, business wouldn’t necessarily have to go down on the bed.
After taking a glorified shower before heading back he switched cars and took a BMW. To him that was such a chic’s car.
Shocker was that he is 40 (the new 25). He gave us stories of bashes at Beverly Hills and some really priced places. Thing is he is a pilot and living fan full life especially being single.
After all that culture shock I meet up with my uncle dropped him off and had to strong arm him to give the car keys. Had a lot to think about so decided to take a long drive jamming to some wheezy & Drake (Take care album has been my refuge latterly).
First order of business was to go congratulate a recent graduate from Nairobi University –Michelle. Congrats again having being late am making eminence by mentioning on the blog.
I grazed shoulders with couples calling each other baibe and what not, clutching each other in their drunken state keeping each other company. It got me thinking I should really have one of those ties were I can share my thoughts and experiences other than waiting to blog them (which I don’t mind).Just a thought.
Then the night got dim, the car suddenly just gave up on me while near a petrol station. A friend in need is a friend in deed.
Friends be important in whatever situation, fraternity of sorts for example which I can say am a proud member of the rugby one.
They just may be the nudge in time of need metaphoric and literally
the car seemed that heavy when pushing alone trust
(with the car they gave me a push to the petrol station so big up to Omuka & Cartlo).
While in the car thinking about the night events reflected to the pilot guy who even with his status he has kept in the rugby fraternity. Fun as rugby guys are they help their own out in times of trouble which I can reassure guys. Later the car staled again while in Karen. I meet some ‘pals’ who just looked at me without so much concern but when I meet another teammate, he got worried he helped me out in a big way.
Guys with such a close fraternity should try and maintain it pride aside even with the benefits of life on their side.
In light of the post don’t be afraid to invite me to your place. Wont judge, description was for purposes of making a point though can’t deny that’s some good living right there.
Cheers bloggers.

Mr& Miss..........

All week I had been gearing up to go to Mr. & Miss USIU. It been a tradition from the time I got to compass life. It was bound to be different but I got an invitation so I was all accessorized with a date who will feature in the log, photo evidence is important. Other than an invite, I got a title to uphold (designated co-driver) because some lovely ladies were accompanying my date.
With preparations, most crucial part is to compliment my date, which I take pride in, so swag had to be in check. Plus who am I kidding, every time I attend the event you either must be stunningly dressed up or be in a really good pair, couple (by the way what happened to the series coupling?). Down side though, I was balling on a budget, a tight one but I just had to be there (if I wasn’t would have had anything to blog about). Plus got to see a mentor fellow blogger with his lovely girlfriend/wifey. Quit a pair but din expect him to be that small. (once in a while all be bias and have a picture of myself bloggers because was looking dashing.)

with wife Hanako

So had this trendy hair cut (combination of trey songz-can’t get enough video hair cut, Sonnie Bill William-All blacks rugby player and Will Smith). Hehehe.

I can’t stress enough how a classy affair it usually is, I mean they invented uptown Thursday hence the pageant was held on a similar day. It’s also been a while since I got some TLC so I had to pull all the stops for this one and also compliment my lovely date.

With all that unfortunately I found the pageant same all same all. Nothing new and it ran until almost the break of dawn. So that meant the usually partying at carnivore after the crowing wasn’t there. It was jam packed but whispers in the air (imagine I could hear conversations meaning very minimal music and dancing took place) anyway whisper all around was westie westie which was definitely not an option for me.
I actually found it really boring but I got to add names to my friends list, very hot ladies (don’t be fooled by the plural, it only like two). Crew love (referring to Drakes new jam too).

Since I started my weekend early and at a low, Saturday was sketchy with no solid plot. During the week, enough campaigning for my boy to clinch a title in the first ever Mr. & Miss Strathmore had been on course and it bared fruit thanks to all those who voted.
I was to recycle my date but she pulled out so I hadn’t pulled all the stops as the earlier pageant. Swag was on the average, nothing much. Had even borrowed a jacket to keep warm thinking I would be cold with boredom.
We passed by some place called West Mall (a place where ‘mpango wa kando’ shady business can be done in harmony). Though the meat there walalala. It was my first time there.
Some past weekend had meet a lady named Fridah Precious, wasn’t the first time but it was the first time she noticed me. She strolled in a brownish stylish dress and heals (oh hadn’t planned it but I was also in brown coincidentally). She was by far the classiest baibe in the point and after a bit of a chat gathered she was heading to the same venue. Boldly asked her to be my date and I can assure you I haven’t had such fun in a while.(she is the one on the right but also asked Nuru(left) she refused).
Before all that, Mr. & Miss Strathmore was off the hook. Apart from swaging it up, they just dint come to look hot but also feel hot and have fun. Venue was even out of this world had never been to Bomas of Kenya and after the night I was glad it was there.
Comparing the two occasions, Mr. & Miss Strathmore got points on a unique venue that hosted most if not everyone with an opportunity to see the pageants. Music was common, the separate dance floors aren’t a bad thing but dancing to common beats is so unifying. Then, on breaks while changing and stuff, at Mr. & Miss Strathmore had a live photo slide of the audience from the red carpet area to some of them seated around the dome shaped venue. While the Usiu pageant had photo of their contestants with some Uhuru park poses (I get why guys speed off to westie). Then as compared to carnivore, drinks at 230bob, Bomas drinks were at 150 bob and guys could come in with their own. Ample parking space because Strath guys have ride what!!!!
Keep in mind I was drinking a lot and had a date who occupied my time but I noticed all that.
Best part, people weren’t there to parade their new cloths or girlfriends while fencing off anyone else (referring to USIU uptight asses). They came to have fun and it made the event really successful.Get to show stuff done by the people for the people comes out awesome.
Strathmore photos in the blog are by Eshitera Akatsa(only guy in the following photos).

Cngrats to my boy for his 'Mr Farewell' win by the way and all those who voted.
Cheers bloggerz. Stay warm.

Chilaxed...

Am writing this in a charcoal covered hands, smoke carbon monoxide filled house ( not trying to off myself don’t worry or gas chamber or hot boxing). First recap of one of the most polite weekends ever.
It was one of those weekends the phone just dint get any text or calls guys asking where you are or if there is any plot. It was dull as flat as a warm beer (yuck). It can happen though this was a weekend I was home alone. Me myself and the house. Saturday woke up early since mother (most awesome person in my world)was travelling and had to take her to her early bus. She woke me so early I thought the week wasn’t over so as protocol woke up cursing that I was heading to school only t realize it’s a Saturday.
After dropping her, am getting ideas since am home alone then it dawns on me, am not yet a socialite. So can’t halla ‘gossip girl’ or just persons with connections to have a spontaneous bash (no pool so can’t be a pool party). The previous weekend a pal of mine twittered asking a friend over for lunch and in a few guys were swarmed in the house. They self invited themselves and what was to be a lunch turned to be a kibao vodka drinking house hang. Just from one tweet.
Having had a good rugby game, on Thika road which by the way with super high coming up it looks so different almost got lost( getting lost there you can find yourself in another county-not fun). In the evening back to the club house, a few team mates gathered and vibe sparked up. People on drinks can get really philosophical, that’s when degree holder mass up their knowledge I tell you.( I guess even presidents decide to run for office while drinking in a polite members only club.)
So guys start debating about the Jicho pevu saga and from the sparked up conversation I can assure not all degrees are bought. Some firey conversation that clearly pointed out the economy to be in shit in the world as a whole but a few have the control. (I am not anywhere the few elite and this is proof).
Regressing to my earlier statement which included the smoke soaked room and clothes.
Being the man of the house, all the heavy lifting chores are left to me which includes refill of the gas cylinder. It been almost two weeks since there was shortage of gas so cooking has just been a luxury and am not the kind whose got Debonairs or pizza in on speed dial.

Our electric cooker which may be older than me and uses up electricity like it’s the last time it wouldn’t be used ever again. So economic purposes it is off limits unless… so am restricted to micro wave cooking, which is not tasty at all. Though when Kplc fail you, none of the above is an option.
I make a conscious decision to light up the Jiko( I have only done it when in shagz some- light years ago). It wasn’t a fun experience and the raining part dint help one dawn bit. Mad respect to the mbochez,Mothers and sisters who get to light up a Jiko more than often, it’s so Fudging hard.
Tips though since am not sure you can Google how to light up a Jiko, the east African Newspaper up amazingly, with the first stroke of the match( or maybe I just have experience lighting up things to smoke and am not talking about cigarettes). Wet charcoal is just hell, I fanned the dawn thing for more than 30 minutes while it was smoking like a chimney on steroids.

When it finally light up, it spelled a warm night in but cooking with the uncontrollable steady flame, food cooks without hurry and with enough patience and some good cooking skills( mine), the dish is amazingly tasty and worth the hustle. Its best you have a bath and change of clothes to wash down your smoky self and good thing you can boil the water with the simmering down heat. Economical much.
Cheerz bloggerz!
