I had been gambling about the title for this post, thanks to Jay-Zs new single after visiting Cuba, 'Open letter' and his sentiments about politicians are much in line with mine.
Anyway I have never been much
of politics enthusiast. I think even a head boy at a school boarders politics
& I didn't even have a rein but was in the entertainment chair, talk about
a calling. Though that was eons ago in primary school. Though on Sunday, with
the keys to the T.V., I was the head of the school for the one day and my weapon, I wielded
the all powerful remote & had to make the all too important decision as to
what channel or movie the whole would watch. It was the beginning of soap
operas so you can imagine how much I got sweet talked by the girls. With great
power comes great responsibility but the fail to mention recognition.
Watching the season ' House of Cards' can't help but notice how the United
states of America have monopoliezed how politics in the world should run. They
are trend setters for the ' Free world' & dictate how countries should be
ran. I don't care much for that but the thing is how they make it look so good.Their people in power are always trimmed & polished, designer clothes matching ties, pocket square and the whole shabang. Straight hair always, straight suits all pressed and almost fitting if not fitting, very good looking & seemingly powerful women next to them.
Now take that, compare to ours, over-sized
Though we are also to blame, Africa as a whole we soak in the flashiness of westernised politics thanks to movies & the media spoon feeding our hungry minds.
Dictatorship like in Libya while Gaddaffi was in power before he got ousted. You can never know how good or bad you got it unless you've experienced different situations. The country ran like a well oiled machine.
Now we have gone to emulate western politics by being able to be a just a face but the face has to constantly be on T.V.and not just heckling to the common mwanachi, or the uneducated feeding them with repetitive opinions & suggestion.

In my honest opinion that's politics to me. How you play the masses to your music.
Just as in the 'House of Cards' young & capable guys are being used to appease the masses for example the now 'president elect' (such words are resonating on the series) speech was written by a 22year old. The true meaning of the phrase from 'Analog to digital' lies there.
Take heed though, power corrupts & absolute power corrupts absolutely.
The series 'Boss' best emulates the phrase. All we can do is wonder if such politics is practised.
In the movie 'Broken City' it show how to get to the top office it takes hard work, which is also portrayed in all the politics flicks.
Borrowed phase from the same movie ' Broken City' - politicians take because they can & because it feels good- , 'politics is the art of the possible'.
We a sovereign state just elected a president wanted at the international courts together with his deputy to answer for the darkest hours our country ever had, post election violence. To that it proves a point in totality.
I thank God for a peaceful Kenya & hope as we move on words we have a prosperous future. Congratulations to the recent his Excellency president Uhuru Kenyatta & deputy president William Ruto.
